Fabric Heart Card

I've had a creative dry spell recently, but getting out the fabric this week really got my juices flowing again.  Perhaps I just needed to mix it up a bit!  This heart was cut from an old blouse of mine that I can't bear to part with because the fabric is so lovely.

I made the card for Mother's Day and for Sarah Engels Greer's challenge this month.  Check out all the beautiful samples she made - they're astounding!

There might be a foot of snow on the ground here by morning.  What a great way to begin the month of March!  The reason I tell you this is that I couldn't get a good photo of my card - the light is just so poor - all the pictures have a blue cast on them.  But I did what I could in Photoshop....

Wish me luck shoveling :(

De-Stashing My Studio Plus a Giveaway

Good morning!  I recently moved my studio (well twice in the past 6 months!) and realized that I have an embarrassing amount of "stuff"  - stamps, paper, ribbon etc.  My goal is to reduce the amount I have.  I'm going to give lots away, sell some and most importantly, USE IT!

I've set myself a challenge for March - a De-stash Challenge.  Want to join me?  I'll give more details on March 1, but I started already with this card.  It uses a technique called embedded embossing (video here) and some designer paper scraps.

Now for the giveaway - I have a 1 day giveaway on my Facebook page today.  There are 10 sheets of vintage sheet music, 8 pages of vintage botanical illustrations, 3 yards of vintage French ribbon and 2 yards of gorgeous old lace.

Here's what you need to do to win this lovely vintage bundle:
  • Head over to my Facebook Page
  • Hit the "Like" button at the top of the screen
  • If you're already a fan of my page, skip to the next step
  • Leave a short comment in the giveaway post letting me know how you would use the vintage paper and trim (eg cardmaking, scrapbooking, decorating, altered art etc)
I will randomly draw the winner from the comments on Monday at noon!

Good luck!

5 Friday Favorites - Sketch Challenge Blogs

One area I struggle with in card making is sketches or layouts.  I often seem to create cards that are square with one central image, which is fine some of the time, but it can get boring.

I thought I'd share with you today my go-to sketch challenge blogs that always inspire me and get me out of my comfort zone!

I'm always looking for new sketch inspiration - where do you go?  Let me know your favorites in the comments and I'll check them out!

Two Color Challenge Card

If you're arriving here from my old blog New England Stamper, welcome!  I hope you find some inspiration here.

Here's a card I made for the Gingersnap Creations Color Challenge this week - the challenge was to use 2 colors only.  I chose blue and green, and used images from Rogue Redhead Designs (Relish Reading). I used a Technique Junkies technique called Aged Tile.

Have a great weekend!

What's New in the Store

It was another busy week in the shop making custom map albums for the Philippines, North America and Turkey this week!

I finally found time to add some cute vintage paper bundles that I created a while ago.  These are a great size for card makers and mixed media artists.  I was inspired by the Basic Grey 6" x 6" pads of patterned paper and as I use so much vintage paper in the cards I make, I figured that others might want to do the same.  You can see some cards I've made with book pages on this blog and on my stamping blog, New England Stamper.

I also added a new size spiral bound photo album - a mini 4" x 4" version with the popular map cover.  Don't you love that vintage suitcase I found at a thrift store last week :)

Finally, this week I got a brand new look!  Meredith at Jack & Molly created a great new logo and banner for me, plus a cute Facebook avatar. Head on over there and give me a "like".

Have a great week,

Ali

5 Friday Favorites - Creative Business Links

I know that some of my readers are also Etsy sellers or other small business owners, so I figured I'd share some creative business links that I found useful this week.

There's so much good advice in this post by Jess Van Den that I think I'll need to reread 10 times to take it all.  Whatever size your business is, her tips are great!

I stumbled across this 2009 piece this week.  It's a really good post about how to get featured in the press.  The advice isn't specifically for creative businesses, but I think what she says is useful for any kind of small business.

I love Megan Auman's blog posts, videos and e-books.  Here are some more amazing ideas from her:

These 10 tips on the Moo website are common sense really, but I know I don't do all of them consistently, so they're worth repeating:

Last but definitely not least is a really cool interview with Rich Neely of Rich Neely Designs.  He makes the most amazing iPod and iPhone docks from old books - they are amazing - you have to check them out!

Hope you enjoyed the links - happy weekend!
