Project Life Week Two

Welcome to my blog, Vintage Page Designs.  Please consider becoming a follower or stay in touch on Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook.

I made it past the second week for Project Life and am having a lot of fun with this concept.  I had these pictures ready to go for a while, but have been sick all week, so it's taken me until today to post them :(

Here's a look at my layouts for Week Two.  I've continued to use Studio Calico's digital printables for many of my journaling cards and accents plus some patterned paper from this month's Block Party kit.

Above I'm using page protector design A and below I'm using design F.  I love that you can mix and match the format depending on your content for the week.

And here are some details.....I thought it would be fun to record some numbers for the week.  They're just random items, but something interesting to look back on in the future.

This is label from the Martha Stewart range available at Staples with a roller date stamp.

Hope you're having a happy weekend and are staying healthy!

Quick Card on a Sick Day

Welcome to my blog, Vintage Page Designs.  Please consider following this blog or stay in touch on Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook.

Both my daughter and I are home sick with yucky head colds today. But coughing doesn't stop me stamping and I needed to get my mother-in-law's birthday card in the mail asap, so I whipped up a simple card.

The butterflies are die cut from a book page with an SU embosslit and sponged with turquoise ink.  Quick and easy, but a hand made card nonetheless.

I'm entering it into the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge and Splitcoast challenge CAS203

Okay, back to the tissue box.  Have a wonderful week!

Ali

Supplies:
  • Stamps: Inspired by Nature, Teeny Tiny Wishes (Stampin' Up!)
  • Card stock: Cream and chocolate chip
  • Inks: Chocolate chip, tempting turquoise, glorious green
  • Accessories: Red brad, Big Shot, butterfly embosslit, word window punch

Shop Update

Welcome to my blog, Vintage Page Designs.  Please consider following this blog or stay in touch on Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook.

My Etsy store has been open for a full calendar year and as I review my business moving into 2013, I wanted to give you an update and share some things I’ve learned.

I started the store in late 2011 offering a little bit of everything for sale. I wasn’t really sure what direction the store was going to take, so I tried a few different things: project kits, vintage book pages, vintage ribbon, ephemera, tags and journals. It became clear that the journals were the most popular of my offerings. And in particular, the custom travel journals made with vintage maps.

So, I've decided to focus on this area of the business. I’m glad I tried a few different things, but I think the store looks a lot more cohesive with just one type of product for sale. During 2013, I will focus on offering a wider variety of travel journal formats – different sizes, bindings and materials. Watch for updates!

I’m really happy with the progress I made in 2012. I learned a lot and am really excited about the upcoming year.  I'm hardly an expert on selling on Etsy, but there are three things that I've found to be extremely important:

  • Excellent photography
  • Good pricing
  • Phenomenal customer service
There's so much to say on these subjects, that I'll write separate blog posts about them.  Coming soon...

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!

Project Life Week One

Welcome to Vintage Page Designs.  If you're new here, please consider following this blog or find me on Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook.

I've never considered myself a scrapbooker - I've made perhaps 2 dozen layouts in my daughter's dozen years on this earth.  But I journal most days and take lots of pictures, and over the past couple of years, I've begun to combine the two.  Ever since coming across Project Life, I've been intrigued by it.  I might be crazy, but I decided to give it a try in 2013.

Project Life was created by Becky Higgins and is a simplified approach to scrapbooking.  Each week, you put pictures and journaling cards that document your life into photo pocket pages.  That's it!  No layout to follow, pressure to come up with cute titles or a ton of embellishments.

Also, you don't need a lot of product to get started.  You need a 12" x 12" album and some pocket pages (available in a variety of formats), which can be purchased from Amazon.  You can get pre-designed kits and journaling cards, but they're not necessary.

I'm sharing with you my first week's pages.  I used a hybrid of traditional and digital scrapbooking elements and most of the photos were taken with my phone.  No fancy photography here!

I used some digital elements from Studio Calico's Block Party Printable #1.    You can read more about Project Life and find lots of inspiration on their website.  Plus Pinterest has a wealth of eye candy.

Will I be able to create pages every week?  I doubt it, but the first week was fun and rewarding.  I'll do as many as I can and enjoy the process!

Happy weekend!

Quick Holiday Page

Welcome to my blog, Vintage Page Designs.  Please consider following this blog or stay in touch on Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook.

In the spirit of making quicker scrapbook pages that I talked about in this post, I created a speedy layout about our holiday decorating.  In the spirit of quick and easy, I used Instagram pictures I took with my phone and some retired SU paper I had laying around.  No over thinking here.

I'm entering this into Splitcoaststampers Ways to Use It challenge - Snowflakes.  Swing by tomorrow for pictures of my first Project Life pages.

Have a creative day,

Christmas Journal Finished

Welcome to my blog, Vintage Page Designs.  Please consider following this blog or stay in touch on Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook.

This week I finished filling my Christmas journal with photographs, journaling and bits and pieces to remind me of this season.  You can see the blank journal in this post, and here are some pictures of it filled with memories.

I attached a piece of recycled gift bag to the front of the journal because the color and style matched the paper.  And tied some of our homemade gift tags to the binder rings.

I filled the envelopes with some holiday recipes and included some our favorite candy wrappers - Roses, anyone?

And filled the pockets with tickets and programs from the concerts we attended.

It's not a masterpiece of design, but it includes lots of wonderful holiday memories that I know I'll treasure for years to come.

Happy creating!

Modern Vintage Cards

Welcome to my blog, Vintage Page Designs.  Please consider following this blog or you can also find me on Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook.

I really like Studio Calico's products because they manage to be modern and vintage/retro at the same time.  I'd describe my style as clean and simple vintage, but I do like the odd splash of bright color.  And you definitely get this at Studio Calico.

I created two cards with one of their recent scrapbooking kits - Sock Hop, while I eagerly wait for this month's kit - Block Party.  I'm entering it into their Sunday Sketch challenge this week.  The Happy Birthday stamp is from Amuse.

And here's a quick boy's birthday card with the same kit.  I never have boy birthday cards on hand, so this will go in my stash.

Hope you had an awesome weekend!

Relaxed Scrapbooking

I don't think I've ever posted a full 12" x 12" scrapbook page on this blog.  Well, there's a first time for everything, I guess!

I've always wanted to scrapbook, but the pages always take me so long to create because I try to make them perfect.  I know I'm not alone with this problem - anyone relate?

So, I tried an experiment with this page - I didn't think about it too hard.  I just grabbed a small selection of papers and embellishments, a favorite photo taken with my phone (not a perfect one) and moved things around on the page until I liked it.  Not too much deliberating or agonizing - just fun!

And I have to tell you, it was very liberating.  It might not be a masterpiece, but I like it.  It was relaxing, not stressful and captured a moment in time, which is what I would like my scrapbooking experience to be all about.  Stay tuned for more pages.....
