Sneak Peek

Do you ever leap out of bed at 5am with an idea that you just have to create?  Well, I don't often get out of bed at the time, but I did this weekend because I couldn't get this new product out of my head.  Here's a sneak peek - I'll be launching it sometime this week.....

Bright Ideas for Maps

There are so many creative ways to use vintage maps.
I thought I'd share a few lighting projects with you today.

Check out this gorgeous light!
You can find a tutorial showing how to make it at Paisley Sprouts.

This light created from old maps by Umbu is stunning!

There's a fun lamp tutorial at Modge Podge Rocks.

Although this pendant light is globe cut in half,
you could definitely decoupage a plain metal one with maps instead.

Gratitude Journals

My mini Thanksgiving journals have been flying out of the door - I've lost count of how many I've shipped this month!   People have been ordering them to place on their family Thanksgiving table and to hand out as favors at parties.

Thanks to everyone who has ordered them - I hope your friends and family enjoy them.  If you haven't ordered yours yet, there's still time.  Priority and Express shipping options are available - just head on over to the Vintage Page store.

Book Pages and Napkins

I created a card for a challenge yesterday on The Stamp Man challenge blog and they had an interesting tutorial using patterned napkins.  Of course, I had to put my own spin on it and use old book pages.

I've included some step-by-step photos below. Please let me know if you have any questions and if you try this technique yourself.

Tear scraps from old book pages and adhere

to a card stock panel using Modge Podge

or gel medium. Allow to dry thoroughly.

Separate a decorative napkin and glue

top patterned layer to the collaged

book pages.  Allow to dry.

Continue to layer torn napkin onto sheet

until satisfied with the composition.

Allow to dry.

Trim up edges as necessary and
sponge with brown ink.

Cover surface with one final layer of

Modge Podge or gel medium. Allow to dry.

Use panel as desired.

Weekend Inspiration - Home Decor

How simple but stunning is this wall of book pages?  I love it!  It is actually part of wedding decor, showcased on the site The Sweetest Occasion.  But I think it would look awesome in anyone's home.  You could choose a favorite book or change up the pages seasonally.

I think this would look fabulous with the Vintage Botanical Illustrations that I have in the VP store.

Hmmm, now my mind is racing - which room could I pin these up in??

Have you spotted a good idea for using old books in home decor or created something yourself?  Leave a comment here with a link or contact me.  You never know, you could be featured on the Vintage Page Designs blog!

What's New in the Store

I added some fun music tags to the store this week.  They'd be great for holiday packages, but also journaling and scrapbooking.  There's a package with 6 large tags and a package with 12 medium and small tags.  They are made from 110lb vintage cream card stock and original vintage sheet music.

To check out these tags and the other items available at Vintage Page Designs, please visit my store.

Guest Artist - Donna Vere

Check out this gorgeous card I received in the mail from paper artist Donna Vere.  It took my breath away when I opened the envelope.

I just love how she used the vintage sheet music, both as a surface to stamp on and to create the medallion on the front.

Donna recently created some beautiful Christmas ornaments using a similar medallion.

Thanks for making my day, Donna!

You check out more of Donna's work on her blog Paper, Crows and Dragonflies.

Book Page Cards

I love to make cards using pages from old book pages and I plan to share lots on this blog.  Here's one to get us started.

This page was torn from an old gardening book.  I rubber stamped a leaf onto it and then again onto cream card stock.  I cut out the card stock leaf and mounted it onto the page with foam dots.  Nice and simple!

Tip: for a more organic and natural look, tear the book page to the size you need it, rather using a paper cutter or scissors.  Then, run the torn edge along an ink pad to highlight it.
