Fall Weekend

I thought it would be fun to share some pictures from my weekend.  Fall is definitely here in New England!

I hope you had a fabulous weekend too!

Upcycled Jars

I had a little time to play the new Frilly and Funkie challenge today, which is Upcycling.  {The items I upcycled for the challenge are the glass jars, old books and maps and a vintage button.}

I plucked two glass jars out the recycling tub and created a pair of votive holders.  I glued small scraps of vintage paper (maps, music and dictionary pages) around the center.  I finished them with seam binding, a button on one and a little tag on the other.  Very simple, but kinda cute!

Remember to link up pictures of your studio space at the end of this post.  I'm dying to see where you create!

Hope you have a creative weekend!

Vintage Paper Canvas

I just posted a project on my stamping blog that I thought I would share here as well.  It uses some vintage paper, including French dictionary pages and some vintage saver stamps.  Head over there to take a look at lots more photos:

Enjoy!

Repurposed Vintage Ledger

My daughter and I met a friend at a fabulous antiques mall a couple of weeks ago and I picked up this vintage ledger.  The spine was in pretty bad shape, but it still had lots of usable pages.  So, I decided to rebind it so I could use it to track my budget!  Following a budget isn't much fun, but I'm hoping that using a lovely vintage ledger like this will motivate me.

Firstly I cut out the insides of the journal with a very sharp knife.  I separated out the individual signatures that you can see here still bound together.

With a straight edge and sharp knife, I removed 1/4" from the edge of each signature.

I have an industrial strength binding machine to create my photo albums, but if you wanted to do a similar project, visit your local copy shop.  Most have some kind of binding machine and will be able to do it for you.

Once I had cleaned up the covers, I realized that they were too thick for the binding machine (my projects never go quite as planned), so I had to punch the holes with a heavy duty hole punch (Crop-a-Dile) - that took some wrist strength!

Once more into the binding machine to add the spirals.

Here's the finished project - I've already started using it!

Thanks for visiting!  Have a great day,

Ali

3 Paper Trees

Do you ever see a project and it just makes you squeal with delight?  Well, I do - often!  And if it involves old paper or music, I'm totally sold.  Well, here's one such project:

It was created by MJ from 517 Creations and she very kindly said I could post her picture here.  Head over to her blog for the scoop on how to make this fabulous holiday tree!

Got a little more time?  Here's two more gorgeous paper trees to check out:

Weekend Inspiration - Home Decor

How simple but stunning is this wall of book pages?  I love it!  It is actually part of wedding decor, showcased on the site The Sweetest Occasion.  But I think it would look awesome in anyone's home.  You could choose a favorite book or change up the pages seasonally.

I think this would look fabulous with the Vintage Botanical Illustrations that I have in the VP store.

Hmmm, now my mind is racing - which room could I pin these up in??

Have you spotted a good idea for using old books in home decor or created something yourself?  Leave a comment here with a link or contact me.  You never know, you could be featured on the Vintage Page Designs blog!
