Quick Card on a Sick Day

Welcome to my blog, Vintage Page Designs.  Please consider following this blog or stay in touch on Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook.

Both my daughter and I are home sick with yucky head colds today. But coughing doesn't stop me stamping and I needed to get my mother-in-law's birthday card in the mail asap, so I whipped up a simple card.

The butterflies are die cut from a book page with an SU embosslit and sponged with turquoise ink.  Quick and easy, but a hand made card nonetheless.

I'm entering it into the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge and Splitcoast challenge CAS203

Okay, back to the tissue box.  Have a wonderful week!

Modern Vintage Cards

Welcome to my blog, Vintage Page Designs.  Please consider following this blog or you can also find me on Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook.

I really like Studio Calico's products because they manage to be modern and vintage/retro at the same time.  I'd describe my style as clean and simple vintage, but I do like the odd splash of bright color.  And you definitely get this at Studio Calico.

I created two cards with one of their recent scrapbooking kits - Sock Hop, while I eagerly wait for this month's kit - Block Party.  I'm entering it into their Sunday Sketch challenge this week.  The Happy Birthday stamp is from Amuse.

And here's a quick boy's birthday card with the same kit.  I never have boy birthday cards on hand, so this will go in my stash.

Hope you had an awesome weekend!

One More Holiday Card

I've made very few holiday cards this year, but here's one that I created for my best friend.  The base is a Fabriano watercolor card (my favorite).  I colored the Stampin' Up! image with a blender pen and water-based inks with a little sponging around the edge to mirror the vintage feel of the stamp.

I kept the rest of the details simple because the image is quite busy - a couple of gold brads and a folded edge with pierced holes.

I'm entering it into this week's CAS challenge on Splitcoaststampers.

Wishing you and your family a very happy holidays!

Swedish Holiday Card

For a bunch of reasons, I haven't stamped a card for ages and ages.  But this weekend I made holiday cards with the kids from church, so I got out all my stuff.  And I mean all my stuff - the place was a disaster!

While everything was out on my work table, I created this card for my sister-in-law's parents, who live in Sweden.  The text at the bottom is Swedish and I purchased the stamp a couple of years ago from a craft store in Stockholm.

I'm entering the card into this week's Play Date Cafe color challenge.

Have an awesome week as you prepare for Christmas!

Watercolored Dictionary Page

It's busy, busy here at Vintage Page Designs.  I'm working on something new and exciting.....some Vintage Page Kits!  Look for a sneak preview tomorrow......

This past weekend, I got out the watercolor paints and covered some dictionary pages with color.  It was really fun!  Once the pages were dry, it was time for stamping.  I stamped images with Versmark ink and heat embossed them with a fine black embossing power.

The first card uses one of my all time favorite stamps from Crafty Individuals and a sentiment from Amuse.  Here's a closer look:

The second card uses the same watercolor on dictionary page technique with a Magenta image and some yummy vintage seam binding.

I'm entering these cards into several challenges:

Sunday Stamper - Summer Colors
Fashionable Stamping - Embossing
Crafty Individuals - Time for Summer
Inspiration Journal - Watercoloring

Thanks for stopping by!  Come back tomorrow for some fun news.....

Upcycled Jars

I had a little time to play the new Frilly and Funkie challenge today, which is Upcycling.  {The items I upcycled for the challenge are the glass jars, old books and maps and a vintage button.}

I plucked two glass jars out the recycling tub and created a pair of votive holders.  I glued small scraps of vintage paper (maps, music and dictionary pages) around the center.  I finished them with seam binding, a button on one and a little tag on the other.  Very simple, but kinda cute!

Remember to link up pictures of your studio space at the end of this post.  I'm dying to see where you create!

Hope you have a creative weekend!

Final Gingersnaps Challenge & WOYWW147

I posted the last challenge on the Gingersnaps Blog today!  There's some lovely artwork on there by our talented design team and visiting artists for our final copper, ginger or rust color challenge.  It's sad to see it close, but it's time to try new things and take on new challenges :)

Here's the piece I created.  I seem to have a fabric thing going on right now.  I'm not loving the corners - I've got to figure out a better way to deal with that.

The different layers you see here are from bottom to top: chipboard, batting, muslin, 2 pieces of vinyl wallpaper, patterned paper by Graphic 45, embossed copper c/stock and a strip of rust linen (scraps from my living room curtains!).  Here's a close up:

The main panel is made up of 9 inches that include stamped images from Stampin' Up! and Artistic Outpost.  The circular thingamajig is a key from a vintage cash register.  I love it and have been trying to find a use for it for a while now.

I took a photo of my work table when I was done making this - it was a ocean of orange!  I'm linking it to What's on Your Workdesk? Wednesday 147.

Hope you're having a creative week!

Patterned Paper Butterflies

I'm still on a mission to use up my stash of patterned paper. Have you taken my challenge yet?  You could win a handmade art journal!

I recently organized a twinchie swap and wanted to include a little card with each package, but there were lots to make.  So, I created a bunch of really simple, but really cute (I think) 3" x 3" cards.

I die cut butterflies from pretty patterned paper that I'd been hoarding!  I stamped them with a script image and the sponged the edges.

The 3" x 3" bases are left over strips of watercolor paper from making my custom photo albums.

I adhered the butterflies to the bases and embellished their centres with a pearl, rhinestone or button.

Here's the finished batch.

I hope you'll take my patterned paper stash challenge and lighten the load in your craft room!

Happy creating!

Mothers' Day Card

Happy Mothers' Day if you live in the UK!  In case you didn't know, Mothers' Day is celebrated on different days in the US and UK.  I celebrate both days the American day (sometime in May) with my daughter here, but my British day with my Mum.

Here's the card I made for her.  The heart was created from an old blouse of mine that I love and just can't bring myself to throw away.  But I've worn it so much that it has holes in it!  I cut the heart free hand and sewed it onto a cream card base.

I sewed together the cream, pink and brown c/stock and stuck it all on a kraft card base.  It's finished with some vintage buttons and a Stampin' Up! sentiment.  I hope she likes it :)

While I had the fabric out on the table, I decided to make a few more cards with it.  I used a Tim Holtz flower die and some vintage brown buttons.

I'm entering the Mothers' Day card into the following challenges:

My Mum's Craft Shop - Mum's the word
Crafty Bloggers Network - Floral
Belli Challenge - Clean and Simple

Hope you have a wonderful week!

Wearable Art

We had a lazy Sunday today and I had some time to play.  I've been inspired by all the entries to Linda's Grungy Monday challenge - Wearable Art this week, but it's something totally out of my comfort zone.  So, today instead of playing it safe, I decided to take the challenge and try something new.

I figured a pin or brooch would be the most straightforward thing to attempt.  So, this is what I created on a piece of 2.5" x 2.5" grunge board.

The grunge board is covered with a piece of sheet music and some stamping.  I added an aged paper flower with a vintage hat pin, one of Tim's word sticks and hing clips.  I finished with a vintage flash card and typewriter key.  There's a little metal pin on back, but I don't think you need to see a picture of that!  Everything was adhered with soft or heavy weight gel medium.

Come and share what you've been working on today on my Facebook page.  I'm curious....

Hope you like it :)

Have a happy Monday!

Patterned Paper Challenge

I'm continuing to challenge myself by getting rid of my patterned paper.  This time, I got out my 1" square punch and cut out a mountain of inchies from patterned paper, book pages, candy wrappers (yes, that's a Tootsie Roll wrapper you see in there!) and stamped images etc.

I adhered them all to a piece of 12" x 12" plain blue patterned paper to create this large masterboard.  I cut it onto pieces and ran it through my Big Shot with the Stampin' Up! Top Note die (I never tire of that die - although you might get tired of seeing me use it!)

I glued the two dies onto neutral card bases and added stamped sentiments.  It didn't take long and used up some of my stash.

If you have a craft room bursting with paper, I hope you'll join me in this challenge - check it out here!

Fabric Heart Card

I've had a creative dry spell recently, but getting out the fabric this week really got my juices flowing again.  Perhaps I just needed to mix it up a bit!  This heart was cut from an old blouse of mine that I can't bear to part with because the fabric is so lovely.

I made the card for Mother's Day and for Sarah Engels Greer's challenge this month.  Check out all the beautiful samples she made - they're astounding!

There might be a foot of snow on the ground here by morning.  What a great way to begin the month of March!  The reason I tell you this is that I couldn't get a good photo of my card - the light is just so poor - all the pictures have a blue cast on them.  But I did what I could in Photoshop....

Wish me luck shoveling :(
